I'm in the process of running around trying to find all my old favorites and trying to get them on this computer. I feel as though I am leaping over barrels, jumping through hoops, and crawling under the limbo stick. lol The worst part is Geoff went back in the hospital this morning, and I can't ask him the really STUPID questions. Oh well...I guess this is going to be a big learning experience.

I DO hate to bother people. Geoff DID finally come home again and he can help me with a lot of regular stuff but I'm going to need help with the Win 10 stuff. Such as...can I have thumbnails back for some of the files? It doesn't seem to want me to have preferences of any kind, and I don't like the choices they made. Also, I need your email addy, please...I might not LIKE bothering people but I don't have a choice if I want to use this thing. Thank you for offering.... Woohoo...I found how to get Icons back instead of lists...but there WILL be many questions. I also made the computer guy from the store who set it up come back here to install my main email. (That was after going through a tech from my IP company and a tech at Micros**t...each one blaming the other, and 1 barely speaking English.)

Then don't look at it as bothering.....as it ISN'T!!!! AND.......what you call really stupid questions......or the less really stupid questions....or just any question at all......might also help others.....(me) One way or another....we all have to start using windows 10........and in the progress of you asking the really stupid questions ....we get to learn also. So see it doing us a huge favour.

The "stupid" question I had in mind was how to create a desktop shortcut. At one time I knew, but then I forgot it again. I knew it was easy...but couldn't remember exactly how to do it...Now I know again...until the next time. lol
(I know...usually we get rid of the shortcuts...but when you aren't sure how to access something, the shortcut is nice! Besides...I had wanted to actually create a folder for the desktop to store most of the stuff that popped on when the machine was being set up...such as the printer stuff, my anti-virus, etc.)

You can actually have it pinned to your taskbar but a tad complicated to do, but I can show anyone who wants to do it...

Someday, I will get past all the BS and have a real technical problem for you. However, at the moment, I'm being driven mad by my mail program. It has stretched too far down, so the bottom is actually under the taskbar. In the past, I could move the taskbar down to make it "invisible", and slide the window up, then pull the taskbar back up into place. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way any more. It did NOT (as far as I remember) always act this way...so I figure it SHOULD be something that can be "cured".

I've sent you a video explaining it...

Got it! Thank you very much. That is kinda what I was trying to do, but I was trying to work from the bottom. Which brings us to the next question...(are you having regrets yet? lol) Does 10 have a video / music player? I couldn't open your video in Win 10...I'm trying to get to a store to get a microphone so I can set up Cortana...then I can bother her with my baby questions and save you for the real headaches. In the meantime, I can't tell you how much I appreciate you talking me through things. My friend got the same computer the same time I did, and she told me I wouldn't need a book because it is so easy to understand. So far, she has sent a few emails, deleted emails, and shopped on line. She doesn't upload, download, or anything else. As you can see...I'm stumbling along, but I am making the machine mine. I WAS able to change my wallpaper to a pic in my files, transferred Malwarebytes from the old computer to this one, download a few apps, etc. I know it is the MOST basic stuff I am talking about, but every single step brings me a step farther along, and gives me a bit more confidence.

I have 10 on all my machines now and like it..this is the best media player filehippo.com/download_vlc_media_player/.....You'll need to see if yours is a 64 bit though...go to start/file explorer and when the screen comes up like this below right click on my pc and look for properties and look for the 32 or 64 bit option

It is downloaded and ready to install...but wanted to check with you about the type of installation...Of course, I can't now remember the choices, but two (out of three) were recommended and custom. (If custom is needed, I may need more help to choose what I want and don't want.)

I don't want to interfere into your private time...now that I look at it carefully (and I'm not in a panic about doing something REAL stupid) I would probably pick custom and leave everything checked. However, I will wait until I hear from you, just to be sure.

Crap! I picked the correct one...but now I am not allowed to upload pics to Roosted Nuts! When I click "add image to post" it takes me to the Post Image website! Does that mean I can't do regular (pic) posting in Roosted Nuts? I think it is time for me to go to bed and try to clear the fuzzies from my brain.

The uploader here has always been Post Image, they've just changed the format of the window. Click the upload button to upload an image from your computer.
