In 1971-73 I was stationed at Mountain AFB, Idaho and the Snake river ran south of the Air Base. When you I took hiway 90 east to Twinn Falls, Idaho there is a natiional park tghere where Lewis and Clark crossed the river with one big draw back. the had to lower all of the wagons, horses and men down the side of the cliff into the river and then forge across to the side we were on which was a flat land. It is so amazing how much out foefathers had to endure to travel across this wonderful country. The River itself has no mercy and depending where your at on it, it can be very trecherous and lives have been lost due to peoples iexperience and stupidity about water. We were able to see a lot of the river in Idaho and a few year back on one of our vacatiions in Wyoming we visited thge Grand Tetons annd right there was th Snakie River,, it is in one of the pic's I posted in my vacation thread. At that point the river looked very safe and vety slow moving but they say the under current is what you have to worry about. All in all it has carved itself through the mountains and valleys and is such a beautiful sight to see.

Beautiful. We don't have wide, wild rivers over here. This is an old country and our rivers tend to be more narrow and sedate.
